1600 is an average 14.4 connect CPS rate.

I'm assuming you don't have a manual for your modem so here's
some info from a few of mine.

If your modem is Hayes compatible type in AT&V while in your
comm programs terminal mode to look at your settings in your
modem's ROM.

If you type in AT&V and it gives you an error then your modem
isn't fully Hayes compatible and the info below won't apply,
except for maybe the very last sentence.

Based on the below info you'll want to set your W? setting to W2
if the AT&V command worked. Just type in ATW2&W to make your
modem report DCE speeds instead of DTE speeds.

The below info is from my Zoom manual, page 35

W0 = Report DTE (computer to modem) speed only

W1 = Report DCE (modem to modem) speed, error correction
       protocol and DTE speed

W2 = Reports DCE (modem to modem) speed only

This info is from my Hayes manual, appendix A-7

W0 = Do not return negotiation progress messages

W1 = Return negotiation progress messages

W2 = Do not return negotiation prpgress messages and return
CONNECT messages using modem to modem (DCE) speeds instead
       of modem to DTE speeds.

Looking thru my USR Courier manual I couldn't even find a command
to force the modem to report DTE upon a connect. The &A? command
varies the amount of data you recieve on a connect but won't
change reporting from/to DTE or DCE

And last but not least if you've just been "trolling" with these
comments about your 19200 connects to see who would bite,
good job......

... Ever wonder why "Oprah" spelled backwards is "Harpo"?
