SK>Intersting. You know, I just try to be truthful and tactful. A few
SK>months back I was calling parents in the evening from home, and my
SK>husband was surprised to hear me tell a parent, that "perhaps he is just
SK>lazy and not trying very hard". He was shocked at my use of the word
SK>"lazy". I thought I was calling a spade a spade, and no sense skirting
SK>the issue.
And I would guess that as long as the teacher does not abuse the right
to discuss the child's behavior by pounding the parents over the head
physically, most anything would go. There used to be a sort of
common-law ruling that said, in the absence of the parent, the teacher
stood in place of the parent (I never took Latin - was it called "en
loco parentis"?).
One of the oft told stories in our school involves a first-year male
teacher. He had taken a real "beating" from an 8th grade student during
the first three weeks of school, a child who would not do any work and
would not cooperate in class, so when open house rolled around the last
week of September and the parents showed up, the teacher boldly
announced "He ain't gonna make it!" We now celebrate "Ain't gonna make
it!" day around the first of October every year.
Three more days until we go back to the grind!
