The FREE card gives you the following:
Discounts on park admission
Discounts on travel packages
10% discount at Disney Stores and certain "in park" stores
Disney Catalog Discounts
Regular MKC magazine (slightly upgraded quality in "gold card" kit but same
                      info is in both magazines).
The ONLY things you get additional with the "GOLD CARD":
Personalized plastic "Gold Card"
Travel Bag
Luggage Tag (also available free from Disney Travel)
Upgraded Magazine
If anyone tells you that only the "Gold Card" is given the 10% discounts in
the stores... read your MEMBERSHIP BOOK you recieved when you got your
standard MKC card (you do get the discount).  Then demand to see a 
upervisor.
This goes both for the Disney Stores and the "in park" stores that give a MKC
card discount (not every store does... but any store that offers the discount
for the "gold card" offers the SAME discount for the standard card).
If you want the four items given with paying your $60 for the "gold card"
membership... then by all means "go for it".  But if you are looking for the
maximum discounts available ONLY... then just get the standard MKC card.
