Whoa ! Is that an _AUSTEL-APPROVED_ Xircom ? Did you upload AUSTEL-APPROVED
firmware ? If so, backlevel now if you can. It's possible that your new
ROMs have enforced Australian Tx levels.

I've not had a lot of reproducible luck with any PCMCIA 28.8s to be honest.
I still run V.32bis modems in my machines. I think there are some sorts of
design compromises in the DAA sections of these beasties - either that, or
I've just been unlucky...

Nothing to do with it at all, unless you're using weirdo stuff like X.25,
T-1 simulators, or DES.
