Hi, Sondra,

RA>I got it as a Christmas present, but didn't jump in on the discussion--I

SB> Wait a minute, Robin! You and I chat about almost anything. We've
SB> had some really good discussions about racism, and the economy, and
SB> reservations, and wannabees, and laws, and all sorts of things. You
SB> know a whole lot. You've seen a whole lot. And you certainly *do*
SB> have important things to say to Jim.
Thank you, Sondra. I really do tend to shy away from discussing
literature, though, and I'm totally adrift when it comes to poetry--not
that I should really be saying this to a poet ! It
goes back to my freshman year at college. At the same time the kids in
the English lit class I was taking were coming up with all these arcane
insights into 'The Wasteland', which I had not heard of before taking the
class, my roommate and her friend Margaret spent many hours holed up in
the storage room writing poetry. None of it made the least bit of sense
to me, went flying right over me through the stratosphere. In
fact, I felt very much intimidated, very much like I had an IQ of -10 or
thereabouts. Margaret has just had a book of poetry published by Texas
Tech. They have a program that publishes up and coming poets by
invitation only. Of course, I went out and bought the book ('Stalking
Joy' by Margaret Benbow). After nearly 35 years, the stuff is still
zinging over my head in the stratosphere. That realization had me
feeling a bit intimidated all over again.
Then, again, I don't discuss spirituality, either .
Take care,
Robin
