In this area X2 is the standard in use. However I doubt very much that an X2 
modem would be that much different. A lot of the speed is dependant on your 
line conditions. If you have VERY good lines, you'll get closer to 56k than 
you will with dirty lines.
My roomie's girlfriend says down in the area where she's from (South Georgia) 
she's getting 33.6 connects between her X2 and her ISP, but up here (in 
Chattanooga, TN) she's getting similar speeds to what you're getting.
