I made an appt for nail & wing clip last week.  I forgot to
hide the carrier, brought it out where she could see it. Pet Carrier
equals Vet. Pet carrier also equals very angry amazon.  Very angry for
three days.
When I do get her there, the Vet is incognito(no lab coat, no
stethoscope, no tools, no vet apparrel, no vet equipment are in sight.)
The towel is hidden until the last moment. The worst part is she has a
couple dirty tricks. Her favorite- when she is wrapped in the towel and
cannot get away, she goes limp, completely limp.  Her hope is that the
person holding her will loosen their grip so she can attack. Yes it is a
trick because she is being held by very experienced hands and no bird or
human could spring up that lightening fast if they were being
mishandled.
Grum's last and final trick, all the nails, beak, and wings have been
groomed.  The bird is put down in front of her open crate.  She is
supposed to run inside to safety.  She chooses to spin around and
attack.  Final results:  Nobody gets bitten and Grum looks wonderful.
I've been going to these Avian Vets for about four years now.
My Mom called me, her parakeet needed a beak trim. I told her to go to
my Vet and identify herself as Grum's Grandma. Mom called me
afterwards.  Mom said, every single person that worked there(including
Vet Techs, Kennel Help, both Vets, the new receptionist) asked about
Grum.  Mom asked me about their incredible memory.  After all, Grum is
just one of many birds that go to that Vet....
Michele, I am not convinced that Carita has changed her mind
about your husband. Grum has always hated my husband. And then one
day, she was a sweety pie.  Grum stayed a sweety pie with my husband
for quite a while. Finally my husband and I dropped our guard when
hubby was handling the bird. That is when she grabbed him and wouldnt
let go of him.
Tell your husband, I said to be careful. And who needs a guard dog when
my sweet little amazon is with me?
