Try ftp.elf.stuba.sk, in the /pub/pc/pack directory. It's probably
the premiere site on the 'Net for archivers and archiver-related files.
Lately, however, whenever I try to download a file from there, I get
rejected with the message "I'm sorry, but the sysop won't allow you to FTP
a file this size!" When that happens, I go to its mirror site,
ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de, in the /pub/msdos/mirrors/ftp.elf.stuba.sk/pc/pack
directory, and can usually get the file(s) I want from there.
If I remember correctly, I've seen reports that X1 recognizes archives
only by their extension, which makes it difficult to use for many BBS/mail
functions. :-(
There is also an ARJ-compatible OS/2 archiver from Russia named ARJZ.
Unfortunately, all its documentation and help screens are reported to be
in Russian.
