Very helpful! It looks like the pins are wrapped around to touch traces on
both sides of the ceramic - is that correct?
Assuming that the later (discrete SRAM) Zips had a similar internal
arrangement, this doesn't look too bad. If I go in with a Dremel bit just
inward of the plastic housing, I should be able to open things enough to spot
the edge of the circuit board before putting the bit through a trace (my
primary fear).
I'm still going to try for an X-Ray image of mine, but this gives me a bit
more confidence.
