I appeared in court today on behalf of a bittergirl who had been
arrested for DV, Puke - no trial, just to arraign her on charges.

The charges were:   In addition to punching him several times, she
knocked her boyfriend several times on the arm with a baseball bat; if
the DA doesn't amend the complaint to include assault with a deadly
weapon, she will be very fortunate -- since ADW is a "strike" under
California law, and DV isn't.

But she was also charged with first degree burglary stemming from a
separate incident, and first degree burg IS a strike.

On top of this, she has a prior criminal record - yet she actually had
the gall to expect me to get the judge to let her out of custody so
that she can wait for her trial while OUT OF CUSTODY.

Uh - small chance, even in a matriarchal society, that the judge is
going to release her, given these facts  And, she was just a little
short of her 18th birthday when it happened, so she came very close to
being tried as an adult.  However, she can't bail out, because minors
aren't entitled to bail.

But I never had the chance to arraign her and ask the judge to release
her because she cried her eyes out and asked the hearing to be put
over for one more day while she attempted to call her father from
juvenile hall and urge him to come to court.  Some other attorney will
appear for her tomorrow.

I'll wager that your Grand Island, Nebraska airport manager faces his
charges with dry eyes.

Now Puke, you seem to feel that you got some mileage for posting some
news story about DV, so how much mileage am I entitled to for my
professional one?
