curses works on pretty much everything... (it's originally uni*x and has
been ported to mant non-unix environments too)
I'd consider it extremely odd if curses wan't available on solaris.

it's probably the best way to go if you're wanting to do any sort of CUI

if you're intending to use graphics X might be a better move but that is
pretty involved AFAIK
