| subject: | Compact Floursecents Contain Mercury |
From: "Dave Ings" Prompted by the discussion here this week, I noticed that (local) packaging of compact floursecent bulbs clearly states that they contain mercury and should be disposed of "appropriately". I also notice that my local recycling program requires that disposal of used bulbs requires a special trip must be made to the hazardous materials depot: http://www.toronto.ca/garbage/fluorescent.htm Of course most people won't do this, at least until the word gets out, so the result of all the Al Gore publicity etc etc might be a net increase in the amount of mercury going into landfills. Given mercury hangs around in the environment essentially forever, all I can say is what a questionable "solution" this compact floursecents seem to be. -- Regards, Dave Ings, Toronto, Canada --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
