This Echo is READ ONLY ! NO Un-Authorized Messages Please! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1\21 Japan - NASDA Rpt No 126 2002 DECEMBER Part 5 of 5 Interviewer: Speaking of cooperation, ADEOS-II to be launched by NASDA has two French instruments (POLariza-tion and Directionality of the Earth's Reflectances POLDER and ARGOS-Next) onboard. I have heard that you are wishing the success of launch on Daruma doll.(*) Paluch: Yes. Japan is a country of high tech, but it is also a country of tradition. It is very similar to France in that respect and I appreciate this very much. That Daruma is a kind of symbol of the cooperation between France and Japan. I do hope the project will go well and the Daruma will receive both eyes. I think France and Japan can build a deeper relationship. I certainly like to help achieving it. It is important for a country to cooperate with different countries and think France and Japan have the same level in space field, and believe that both countries can consequently set up a nice and well-balanced partnership. * Editor's Note Monsieur Paluch gently and kindly answered to most of our questions in Japanese. As it is evident with ESA, the cooperation among different countries is very important in Europe. The fact that he acquired a strong experience of international cooperation through his previous involvement in European matters, certainly helped him to answer the questions in this interview. The French instruments onboard ADEOS-II, POLDER and ARGOS-Next mentioned in this interview were successfully launched on H-IIA just before the publication. We would like to congratulate him for opening the both eyes of Daruma. (*) An eyeless doll, said to represent 6th century Zen monk Bodidharma, which is used as a symbol of tireless effort toward a goal. People paint in one eye of the doll when making a wish, and paint in the other when it comes true. - End of File - ================ ---* Origin: SpaceBase[tm] Vancouver Canada [3 Lines] 604-473-9357 (1:153/719) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 153/719 715 7715 140/1 106/2000 633/267 |
