subject: Nasturtiums & black things

Planted some nasturtiums. They did well. Noticed a few little
black buggie things clinging to the undersides of some of the leaves.
Washed them off. Went on holidays. Came back. Nasturtiums were
gloriously healthy, bursting in blooms, and so were the black bugs.
They were hideously clustered on nearly every leaf.
So, I washed them off with an anti-bacterial dish soap. Within
two days, the nasturtiums looked dead. The black bugs seemed
glued to the leaves. I had hoped they would die and fall off.
The plants are in sorry shape - this in two days!!! SOmewhere I had
read that soapy water was the best thing to kill bugs and not harm
the plant. seems to have worked just the opposite!
Any one have any ideas what happened here, and what those tiny
black, non-moving bugs are?
Thanks.
