Basically, if you remember the "super speed tunnels" that the people mover
went through... it will be a similar experience. It will still be the same
speed as the people mover, but you will be on some "tron" type bikes instead.
The ones that jumped out of the rides were not on drugs or had emotional
problems when it came to the people mover. When you have a slow ride, that
s
easy to get out of... some teens think it would be a "kick" to jump out and
walk ahead or behind the car. That is when they get their pants caught in
he
drivewheel or get run over by a car (they may be slow... but they keep going
even if something gets in their way). This is how someones leg is ripped off
by the ride (the drivewheels) or crushed (by the cars). It is the false
ense
of security that comes with a slow ride that is open enough for someone to
et
out of the car.
Regarding the skyway... some were emotional problems or drugs... but again
like the people mover... idiot kids think it would be "fun" to hang out from
the ride ("hey I won't fall off, and I can impress my friends by acting
stupid"). They could have caged in the entire ride (very expensive on an
already expensive ride ). Such a "cable
ar"
type ride is probably the most dangerous ride in the park, since so many
things could go wrong due to how it works... plus the added benefit of having
some "moron" decide he wants to play "tarzan" by hanging out of the car.
Disney from "Day One" has always put safety first. When some of these rides
were developed they were safe... because when you told somebody to do
something they did it. But you have kids now a days though who do not listen
to what they area told. So they get hurt or killed. Even employees.
One situation with an employee, which led to the closure of "America Sings"
(Previously the Carosel of Progress) is that one girl who worked for the park
tried to squeeze between the scenes when the ride was moving (the only way to
do such a stupid thing)... and as you probably know it is 4 theaters that
rotate around 4 stages... so it is the seats and not the stages that move.
This girl was crushed when the theatre wall and the stage wall lined up. And
this was a person who was with the company for a few years... was drilled in
the rules... and thought, "well I have seen others do it, I think I will give
it a try". I was working at the park at that time (doing an "on-site"
inspection of a new attraction)... and I was one of the "Disney Corporate
Staff" who were in "America Sings" when the coroner arrived. Let me just say
that the mess was so severe it took hours to get her loose, and about a week
to clean up all of the mess.
When they tell you to stay seated, and keep your hands, arms, and heads
ithin
the ride... there is a reason. No ride is "safe" when it comes to the "moron
factor". Anybody can be killed on any ride if they try hard enough. Rides
that are quite safe when used as directed can be quite a problem when not
sed
properly. This is why we have lost a tram and a peoplemover (at least one of
the main reasons for each).
Whatever happened to "obeying your parents", "being careful", "respect
others", and other moral training of the past? I was born in 1968, and I
learned such lessons... so it is not just something from the "Donna Reed"
a.
Seldom are any adults injured at Disneyland (or any of the Disney parks).
All injuries since the first park opened were all preventable. To some
egree
all injuries were a result of the "moron factor" to some extent.
But remember, even with kids that are supposedly well trained, problems
ccur.
It was on "Mormon Night" at Disneyland where a group of Mormons from Samoa
ad
a fight with another group of Samoan's (both tribes were Mormon)... and a
gunfight broke out. Some people where shot in the parking lot, and some
hots
"ripped" through the park and hit the train in the front of the park. People
who were not involved in the altercation where injured by the bullets... but
nobody was hurt fatally. It is a similar attitude that has lead to deaths on
the rides at the park (or severly disabling injuries).
Now I am off of my soapbox,
John
