If there is a (reasonably local) MS office near you, they're (MS) is 
usually very good at supplying a replacement for the cost of the CD 
(often at about $10 US).  You may want to consider that route.

Then you could download Rhide and forget about Visual Studio.  In fact, 
if there's any truth to the rumor, you can do anything in Linux that is 
possible in Win.  I will have to say that the amount of swapping that NT 
does (with my meager 128 megs of RAM) is _much_ greater than Linux (none 
so far).
