Only against small/poor countries.
How would a US/PRC war be "sustainable"?
Esp in say 20 years when BRIC places will have steadily upped the arms in
their inventory e.g. the Russians, Indians & Chinese are all growing
(in the Russia's case re-growing) their mil e.g.
http://english.people.com.cn/200703/08/eng20070308_355538.html
" Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday said
China's military expenditure increase is in concert with its economic
growth.
The 17 percent increase in China's military budget this year will not have
a negative effect on the stability or the balance of power in the region,
said Najib, who is also defense minister. "
Taiwanese view:

"The foreign ministry says that China's 18 percent military budget
increase for 2007 will affect regional stability and peace.
It said that China's military increase and lack of transparency is of
global concern and conflicts with its promise of a peaceful rising.
The ministry said that China should keep its promise and give a reasonable
explanation for its military modernization."
Indo & US view:
http://www.indianmuslims.info/news/2007/march/09/international/us_concerned_ove
r_chinese_military_build_up.html
"US officials are calling on China to show greater transparency in its
military strategy and doctrine, saying the country's continuing military
build-up is a "source of concern and interest" for China's
neighbours and the United States.
The international community will have a greater understanding of China's
intentions if there is "a better understanding of Chinese military
doctrine" and its budget process, as well as the kinds of equipment
the Chinese are developing, State Department spokesperson Sean McCormack
told reporters Thursday.
"Well, if the Indian government has concerns about the Chinese
military build-up, then they should engage the Chinese government about
those concerns," he said in response to a question whether Washington
had a message for New Delhi in this regard.
McCormack made his remarks after China announced an 18 percent increase in
its military spending, and nearly two months after it tested an
anti-satellite system."
So wind the clock on 20 years & what do we see?
Large fleets of cheap disposable drone systems ranging from submarine to space.
Who has them now? All will have them & it will become mucho like
1901-1921 (i.e. dreadnought till Washington treaty).
So lots of mil spending by all the big powers. Lots of lethal toys etc. Now
ask yourself again in say 20 years which major power could sustain a
conventional war against another ?
