I have never been able to get a Lexmark working with linux. I
use Epson printers at home and have always had good results with
them. I also use a Canon MultiPASS MP730 in the office and that
works as expected. HP has done a lot of linux development and
likely most HP printers can be made to work.

There is a database of printers (working and not) at linuxprinting.org
that can be helpful in setting up printers (or not) in linux.
