| subject: | Well said girls. Feminism screwed so many of your mothers |
I'm amazed you didn't suss it sooner. Now all you need to do is campaign to a return to good pay for men, so they can afford to keep you. ----------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/standard/article.html?in_article_id=340833&in_page_id=25 Women don't want to be Supermums Juggling a family with a career is no longer the ideal life most young women strive for. Many have been put off the so-called Superwoman role after witnessing the physical and emotional toll it took on their mothers, a survey found. Just one per cent of young women said their career would be their 'top priority' once they had children. Seven out of ten said they did not want to work as hard as their mothers' generation, and felt children were better off 'at home with their mum or dad'. Many plan to go part-time when they have children, while one in four will pack up work altogether. Financial demands But they admitted their plans might be hampered by financial demands. Six out of ten young women were in debt up to their eyeballs, saying they 'spend more than they earn'. Eight out of ten thought females were expected to fulfil too many roles, while two in three thought the man should still be the main provider for his family. Body concerns When questioned about other personal issues, three-quarters of young women admitted to worrying about 'their size and shape daily'. Two-thirds felt their life would be much better if they were happy with their body. The celebrity they most wanted to look like was Catherine Zeta Jones, followed by Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez. 'Young women are increasingly putting their personal happiness before a big salary or high-powered career,' said Margi Conklin, editor of New Woman magazine, which carried out the survey. 'They don't want to work crazy hours while their kids are put into nursery and their relationships collapse under the strain. 'They crave a life-work balance where they can enjoy a fulfilling relationship, raise happy children and have a job that interests them but doesn't overwhelm them.' --- UseNet To RIME Gateway {at} 3/10/05 12:09:25 PM ---* Origin: MoonDog BBS, Brooklyn,NY, 718 692-2498, 1:278/230 (1:278/230) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 278/230 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
