| subject: | Where`s the C |
Looking at the genetic code I notice this "...start codon (is) AUG... Other rarely used start codons are (AUU, GUG, UUG)" van Holde, Mathews Note that none of these start codons have C. Matter of fact the only XUX condons that didn't work as both stop and amino acid coding was CXX or Leu and Phe (UUU, UUC) Also no stop has a C - UAA, UAG, UGA. In both examples I see a lot of purines (A,G) and some U but no C. I think this points to C as being a late arrival to the code - or perhaps the last base to arrive. Comment?
