Hi Chris, PMFJI here, I agree that children should be taught to stay out of the gun cabinet and not to play with children who *play* with real firearms. But having grown up in a home with firearms and learning how to shoot at a young age (9 or 10), I think it is vitally important for children in that environment to be taught proper respect for firearms as well as the appropriate safety rules. To simply say *stay away* and ignore the subject may beg for problems down the road, even if it's just from plain old kid curiosity. I don't advocate forcing all children to become small arms experts by any stretch, but *IF* you have firearms in the home, a thorough safety and awareness course of instruction is in order. Norwich CT! No kidding. I grew up in Mystic, been a long time since I've been back home for anything more of a couple of week visit to the folks.
