Until the brain chemistry is straightened out, the Behavior Mod won't
work at all.
I am in the middle of getting help for a 35 year old who has been seen
by numerous doctors in his life, one being Lendon Smith, M.d., the
pediatrician in Portland, Oregon. Smith wrote several books on diet for
kids which are still good today. There are others that have done work
since in the field of addiction. If there is any history of alcoholism
or bipolar disease, Ritalin doesn't work well at all. Neither will
Prozac. What does work is certain supplements and remedial diet. I have
heard this over and over again from those who have tried it.
The 35 year old has had remedial diet prescribed for him, family did not
make him stick to it and got him on Ritalin instead. I tried to get him
onto a remedial diet once, succeeded for a short time, then he went off
again. This time we are armed with more knowledge of what amino acids
and other supplements are necessary and he is trying a modification of
same.
There can be absolutely NO SUGAR at all in the remedial diet! NONE.
For those who have abused this over the years it may be almost
impossible to change.
