I would say that having a binary format at all is DOS-think. :-) Surely both storage and transport formats of fidonet messages could be optimized a bit, but I doubt that it would be worth the effort. By the way, I uploaded a slighly improved version of the module to the server. The main difference is that it now uses Time::Zone instead of Time::Timezone as I think that the TimeDate package is much more common than the Time-modules package. There are some problems with file locking, though. The only portable file locking mechanism in perl is the flock function.
