Now now, *grin*, when I said that most Playboys went for only a few dollars,
I was talking about 1970 and later issues. The owner of Penny Ranch, the
store I told you about in an earlier post, indicated to me that the actual
big "drop off" point for pricing of Playboy magazines is in the year 1965.
Playboy magazines before 1965 go for $10.00 and up, depending on year and
grade. Playboys during and after 1965 take a big price drop, and go for no
more than about $3.00 to $6.00 an issue. After 1975, Playboys go for only
about $2.00 to $2.50 in mint. Ironically, some of the later issues are worth
more than some of the earlier issues. Collectors price for the Drew
Barrymore issue for example, which is only about 3 years old or so, is
actually higher than most of the 1970's decade magazines. The "Drew" issue
goes for around $6.00, which is 3 times higher than most of the 70's issues.
I guess it depends on which celeb is in the magazine. Strangely, the 1984
Suzanne Somers issue is only a two buck issue in mint, just like the 1979 Bo
Derek one. I guess on those, they sold too many to establish a collector's
market value yet. The Shannon Doherty issue is already around $6.00 now, and
it's only 2« uears old. Strange how things work....
