Yeah, there was also one of the Spirit models got set to some less-capable
version if you gave it some (not that unlikely) command, I dimly recall.

My DPX596 has some odd options around LL mode, but it's recoverable.  If
you accidentally issue an AT*V command, however, you're in V.25bis command
mode (completely different from the Hayes-AT command set).  All you need
issue to get back to AT mode is a 'BAK' command, but you have to know that
first :)
