BFH> Communications is one of the key goals of a home
BFH> office. What use if you have
BFH> laser printer, a 586, and thousands of dollars
BFH> worth of equipment, but it is
BFH> not sending or receiving at least 5-10 messages a
BFH> day? I think the average
BFH> person can handle about 40 mixed messages a day,
BFH> combination, phone calls,
BFH> mail, email and fax, if a good amount is for stock
BFH> information. Detailed
BFH> legal discussions can suck up a lot of time and
BFH> mental exercise. 1-2 of those
BFH> can take up a whole day.
It's a very good point to buy only as much equipment as you really need, at
the level that your really need, and add to it as your needs change.
However, this point is moot for most people starting home businesses - most
of us can't afford the equipment we really need, so there's no chance of
getting more than we need.
BFH> I have just begun to use Internet Email, and so
BFH> far it is doing well. My only
BFH> complaint on that is despite what we hear and see,
BFH> 80% of the vendors and
BFH> customers I talk to don't have their email
BFH> address, or dont' use it. Net
BFH> email is perhaps the most valuable part of the
BFH> Net, as pointed out by many
BFH> magazine and articles. Who wants to read data and
BFH> graphics all day long? But
BFH> again, having email access and not using it wisely is another waste.
This is true. Many people have email access without understanding how to
make it profitable and time saving. This will change as people become more
familiar with it, and the novelty wears off. Cars weren't very useful for
the first few years that they were on the road, but what would we do without
them now?
