it wasn't fudged, reallly... what was seen was the HTML decimal number of
the charater... the same thing that one would use when creating a webpage
and one wants to ensure that all character sets accurately display the
character in whatever character set the viewer is using in their setup...

it comes thru just fine... however, others may see something else or
nothing at all, depending on whether they have proper codepage/character
set translations and/or some system strips the high bit off or even strips
the entire character...
