Not too long ago, I had a cable modem installed, which provides me with an
unbelievably fast connection, 24/7, with a fixed IP address. So far, I've
seen sustained rates inbound of over 4.5Mbps (with multiple connections,
ince
no one site seems able to saturate my link).
So far, I've set up two telnet nodes for my BBS (quite easy with Vmodem), a
FTP server (using Penguin FTP now - would like to know any alternatives
believed to be better), and a HTTP server (Apache 1.1.3).
The questions:
1) Anyone know of good SMTP/POP3 server software that is free or nearly
ree?
My goal is free e-mail for my BBS users.
2) Anyone know a good newsgroup fido gating program? I've tried
something called NGATE, but it's ridiculously slow retrieving news - only
about 1500-4000 bytes per second, whereas my newsreader routinely pulls
120,000 bytes per second out of it.
3) Is there a version of Apache for OS/2 later than 1.1.3?
4) In Apache, how do I enable server-side includes? For example, what I
ant
to do is include the output of a simple REXX CGI script in the HTML file.
Specifically, the CGI script returns the date of the pages last modification
as type text/html. Right now, I'm using JavaScript to return
document.lastModified, but I don't like the format. I've tried reading the
mode_include.html docs, but I cannot figure out why nothing I try works.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
