Jeff,

Archaic or not, the language of a law is all there is.  Or do you mean =
that we shouldn't take laws at face value?

Besides, the fact that the perpetrators of that particular piece of =
language couldn't see beyond their own monotheistic beliefs is what = makes
it objectionable.
