Hi Neil,

    What you want to do is a bit tricky. IIRC you have to use an
Ioctl system call, but it was so long ago ... Of course you could just
change the mode of the input device, but you will have to remember to
change it back...

    Generally processes run until they have to wait for an event when they
go to sleep. If you have two cooperating processes they can wake each other
up at the appropriate times. That implies pipes or signals or both, IIRC.
Fortunately unix is pretty good on both.

    There shouldn't be too much more to it than that.
