I'd take a look at the settings for transfer buffer size, flow
control, and whether CTS is dropped during disk writes.  If not
already set this way, try using the smallest possible buffer,
CTS-RTS hardware handshaking only, and CTS dropped during disk
writes.  This problem usually results from a UART data overrun
during disk writes.
