>Volcanoes. Given that they've got the technology, they can block up a
volcano, using the pressure of the eruption to propel them out of the water=

Using phospherous as a propellant, it is possible to propell the ship out o= f
the atmosphere.

>Im not real sure of the physics involved, but it's basically a ship in a
cannon...albiet a really big one.

I don't think this would work. On the other hand, volcanoes and perhaps
fi= ssures in the
crust and the like might produce the heat and perhaps access to elements th= at
squids need to do underwater metallurgy. Garry's right in a sense, since t= o make a
squids-in-space story believable, the science that puts them into space mus= t be
somehow believable. More than likely, if a Federation crew ever meets up
w= ith a ship
of squids, those squids might be semiaquatic, equipped for life both in and=
 out of the
water. By being on land, they could develop technology, while they would d= o things
like mate or reproduce in the water. This could be the way I would go if I=
 ever come
up with a story.
