released to the public, yes... IBM's engineers didn't think that anyone
would need the capabilities of the 8086 so they created the 8088 with the
same design except that it has an 8bit external data buss instead of the
8086's 16bit external data buss... both chips have a 16bit internal data
buss... this meant that the 8088 had to read the data buss twice and then
do the work...

those guys (IBM) had no vision... still don't, i don't believe...
