WRT body armour it's a mobility question. you can get plates which will protect you from a range of rounds & even an explosive (e.g. that worn by the EOD ppl). However....once you get to the stage of not being able to bend & the fact that you can't do anything other than walk & then not that far etc.coz of the weight.... Also it depends on the range. Also also I know of proper snipers who prefer headshots.
