>I could see the possibility of underwater life building technology.
Of course, I would wonder how, but then again, it might not be impossible. =
It might
not be technology as we would understand it, but it would cleary indicate t= hat
something sentient developed it.
>I haven't see the book Steve mentioned but I saw the two hour show called=
=20
the same thing on Animal Planet, which I'm assuming was based on the=20
book. It had some interesting ideas to say the least, none of which I=20
see directly applying here other than other native life forms to this=20
planet developing sentience.
I had the feeling the book was based on a television show, since the title = of the
book is trademarked. However, the book made no mention of a TV show, unlik= e,
say, the book that went along with "Walking With Dinosaurs." I
never heard=
of
the show, but then again, Animal Planet is a cable channel not available he= re in
Canada. I mentioned the book because it showed squids moving onto land and
colonizing the land, with a species taking to the trees and evolving
sentie= nce.
In the "Star Trek" universe, this might have happened somewhere,
and produc= ed
a sentient "land squid" species that could develop technology
more as we un= derstand
it.
>I recently saw another program on either the Discovery channel or Animal=20
Planet where they took a tasty treat for a squid and put it in a clear=20
glass bottle that was corked and placed it in the tank with said squid.=20
The squid opened said bottle and got the treat, not by breaking the=20
bottle but by removing the cork.
This is not surprising. The squids have to be at the top of the line for
s= entience in
invertebrates, which might not be saying much, but who knows?
