There was a segment on the Discovery Channel last month about the
USPO and the software they are using. They can scan printed
addresses in a whith of a second; some illegible handwriting takes a
bit longer. Those are routed to a "trouble" bin where another OCR
analyses the entire address block in an attempt to "learn" the
persons handwriting/style. (I've seen letters my wife receives from
her 85 year old Parkinson's afflicted mother come through with
barcodes!) They were claiming that the USPO could analyze and
barcode 999/1000 handwritten envelopes. IF that's the case, why the
ALL CAPS, Courier, etc., that we've heard about for bulk mailings?
