Hi Carl,
Welcome to the thread. ;)

I agree with you - that was far too late. It's the early stages you have
to be careful about correcting too much but by grade three final drafts
should be standard in most items - except IMHO in journals. I know that
in creative writing - we call it process writing here - spelling is
often not corrected unless the child wants to "publish". I've heard the
question of "what if the child doesn't want to publish anything?" Jo
Phenix's book "Teaching Writing" I find wonderful in answering all these
type of questions. If I remember correctly she says that the children
must publish a minimum number of pieces a year. In other words you have
to set requirements, rules and rubrics. :)
How old is your son now? Sometimes even I don't know that I am spelling
something incorrectly - I sometimes wonder if Spell checks are good or
bad? But I guess they are like anything else good when used correctly. I
try to spell things correctly when I write but sometimes speed makes me
slip up - either through typos or not thinking thoroughly how it should
be spelt.

I agree with you 100% here.
CB>Just my two cents worth.
And a very valuable two cents worth - thanks for joining in.
