Hi folks, I'm new to the list and so be ready for some dumb comments.
I've been reading your letters about finding stars and the difficulty there
is in doing this, particularly I guess with high magnifications. Given that
one can calculate theoretically exact positions of stars at the exact time
one looks for them, there would seem to be call for equally accurate
scaling of altitude and azimuth, which I should imagine on a home made dob
could be quite difficult to achieve.
Why is not greater use made of equatorial mounts, on home made reflectors,
and wouldn't this make for easier aiming?
Has use ever been made of variable focal length eyepieces so that one could
zoom in on stars? Told you there would be some dumb questions!
Peter
