I've been saying it for years.
Life is energy moderation with modification through descent.

It began as a reaction to a sun/heat cycle, then through a
'sun' selection, then a 'chemical' selection period it changed into an RNA
world, and finally natural selection.
Replication, metabolism, and all the rest are just novel variants to survive
and stabilize  this chemical system within the heat cycle.

The sun is the voice, life is the echo.
