These are useful in Australia too. A whole house unit, will be roof mounted
and ducted. BUT these are best operated inland ie in districts of very low
humidity.
The air delivered is colder [thermometer] but wetter [hygrometer] than what
arrives at the intake. The impact of cold damp air in a desert environment
an
be heavenly!
These are hardly ever seen on the coast, because the humidity is much higher
there, and the air temps are lower also.
Another influence, is energy costs. Inland the rates being highest, a swamp
cooler is affordable. In coastal [urban] districts the rates are lowest and
o
conventional compressor- type ACs are universally preferred.
