BFH> I have just begun to use Internet Email, and so far it is
BFH> doing well. My only complaint on that is despite what we hear
BFH> and see, 80% of the vendors and customers I talk to don't have
BFH> their email address, or dont' use it. Net email is perhaps the
BFH> most valuable part of the Net, as pointed out by many magazine
BFH> and articles. Who wants to read data and graphics all day long?
BFH> But again, having email access and not using it wisely is
BFH> another waste.
I agree. Whenever I talk about internet policy to a company, I
emphasize email. Although the Web is the in thing, far more people
have access to email...I'm in that category, and if these companies
don't have email they are missing a big market.
Actually, the worst offenders are TV shows about...COMPUTERS!!!!!!
That's right, most of the shows that are on TV that are about
computers are the ones that just post their Website address, and
don't bother with an email address!
Sure they say, "If you have any questions or comments about our
show, visit our Website at www.computer-idiots.com." So many
times I've wanted to correct an error they made or complain and
I couldn't because I don't have Web access.
Of the top of my head, the offenders are:
1. Computer Chronicles on PBS
2. Mark Bunting's computer show on TLC
3. Computer Connection on CNN (they showed an email address for the
first time last week, so they may be removed from this list if
they do so continuously).
4. Life on the Internet on Canadian Discovery channel (shame on you,
this of all programs).
And there are others.
As well, an additional mention goes to the Canadian Discovery
channel for having a newsgroup that they publicize but they don't
moderate it (in fact, I don't think they even read it). Again,
more people have access to newsgroups (like this one) who don't
have access to the Web!
