I've been really happy with Hybrid drives -- standard SATA drives with a
big chunk of flash memory on the side. You don't get the same startup "wow"
that you get with an SSD, but once the flash fills up and you're serving
most of your data out of it, it feels like an SSD.

500 GB hybrids are under $100 online.
