Level 3A with the truma plate inserts...unless they're using an AP round.
The common AK round is a middling power kinda thing. The Chinese were
importing some inexpensive copper clad steel core ammo for a while until it
was banned...  If you want to stop a .30-06, .308 , etc
"powerful" round it will take a level 4.

Most cops are wearing 2's and 2A's.  That's good enough for most ordinary
handgun rounds.
