I use an old, old DOS port of a Unix utility that will search all
drives and list all files with selected attributes to a file and then
set/reset the bits. After I'm done, I use the same pgm to reset the
archive bits from the file it made the first time. I'd love to find an
OS/2 version of this circa 1983 app, but....
May I share your soapbox? I have a long running gripe with ANY
program that installs without providing a functional (and complete)
UNinstall function: that should be a mandatory part of the process. I
don't know how it could handle such things as knowing how to restore
files another program might have also replaced at a later date, but it
could at least clean up it's own crap and leave the system .INI's alone
as much as feasible. The API's contain all sorts of calls to maintain
private .INI's so thre program should at least be able to clean out all
it entries and de-register any classes it creates! In theory, there
are some WIN apps that do a reasonable job of cleaning out orphaned
DLL's and such, but the authors should make that unnecessary.
Just as a side comment: I installed the latest version of NS2 over
the first patched version, which was over the original 'gold' release.
Where the first update clobbered several things, such as CLOCK01.SYS
and SEAMLESS.DLL which screwed things up royally here, this latest
update did NOT clobber those files.
