SD> EV> On one page it said to turn the power on the Router before powering SD> EV> up the DSL Modem and Computer. SD>Here's what goes on: when you turn on the DSL modem, it queries the main ISP SD>server to get an IP address. When you then turn on the router, it asks for SD>WAN IP address from the modem which it receives. When you turn on the SD>computer, Windows' DHCP client asks the router for a DHCP address and the SD>router leases an IP to Windows. SD>If you shut everything down, you shut down the computer first then all of th SD>external accessories. SD>When you power it up, it's just the opposite. :) I always left the DSL Modem and router on 24/7 when I had my AT&T DSL. I have Cox Cable service now and stil leave the Modemrouter WiFi combination unit on 24/7. Avoids a lot of headakes for the senile. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ Typo Tom Strkes Again* Origin: Fidonet Since 1991 bbs.docsnetservices.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 280 640/384 712/0 620 848 770/1 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
