Take a look at your hard drive, especially if you haven't upgraded it in a
while or re-installed Windows. On a similar system I was amazed at the
feeling that it had with a fresh copy of Windows.

Newer hard drives have bigger caches, which speed up access to the drive
greatly. Sometimes, dropping a new drive into an old system can be a
cost-effective way of speeding things up.
