Today I see 5.8.9 and it still isn't up to speed as far as the machine I am
currently playing with is concerned. It's default kernel is still kv-5.4.x and
is likely to sit there for awhile longer.

No.
Also as I suspected the astdrmfb works excellent on kv-5.8.8 and still give me
8 penguins on bootup so if anything I'd bo back to using that as my primary
machine. However I am content to wait until the i915 kernel gurus catch up.
They usually do ... eventually. In the meantime I'll keep doing what I've
always been doing. How about you?
