I don't know other than redhat is pushing them. How special is that?

Today I see 5.8.9 and it still isn't up to speed as far as the machine I am
currently playing with is concerned. It's default kernel is still kv-5.4.x and
is likely to sit there for awhile longer.

MK>> However it still is having troubles with the i915drmfb frame buffer

No.

Also as I suspected the astdrmfb works excellent on kv-5.8.8 and still give me
8 penguins on bootup so if anything I'd bo back to using that as my primary
machine. However I am content to wait until the i915 kernel gurus catch up.
They usually do ... eventually. In the meantime I'll keep doing what I've
always been doing. How about you?

Het leven is goed,
Maurice
