Nowadays it's easy to set up a VPN server with
PiVPN
It supports both WireGuard and OpenVPN. The installation
is "guided", so it's almost impossible to forget a step.
Warning: Wireguard is great, but often still breaks after
apt update/upgrade, so for now I prefer OpenVPN.
