| subject: | Standards for Function K |
RJ> The only standardization that I'm aware of is the use of some RJ> function keys in terms of file managers and editors. I did some inquiries on the Web yesterday and came away with the thought that it's "every man for himself". Lots of organizations (governments, manufacturers, schools, etc.) had function key assignments but they all varied widely from each other. The number of available function keys varied. The assignments varied from each other. The groupings of assignments varied from each other. Now that's what might be called true software independence. I can see their point, though. Different platforms have a different number of function keys. Different softwares can use hot keys that other softwares / platforms would never use, have no reason to use or couldn't respond in the desired way. RJ> I'm personally fond of using the key for this purpose. That brings to mind another key mapping. Thanks for reminding me. þ CMPQwk 1.42 999 --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: COMM Port OS/2 juge.com 204.89.247.1 (281) 980-9671 (1:106/2000) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 106/2000 633/267 |
