subject matter. For instance, I've keyed on the surname
JB>DEARTH in your subject line. I may have missed it before
JB>though.
JB>Anyway, my wife is involved in the study of this surname. The DEARTH
amily
JB>came from Maryland into Fayette Co. PA and married into her
JB>FROST family. Because of the proximity, I suspect strongly
JB>this is the same DEARTH family you seek. There are several
JB>associated families involved. Looking through her notes I
JB>see: DEARTH, FROST, CLAWSON, SHINDEL, CROOKHAM, and many
JB>others. No dearth of names in her notes (excuse the pun).
JB>Caroline DEARTH (b. 1830) m. James R. FROST (I don't see a
JB>DOM or POM in her notes). Caroline is believed to be the
JB>d/o Randolph DEARTH (II) and Elizabeth BAIRD.
JB>I know that there have been difficulties in tracing both
JB>the DEARTH and FROST lines, apparently due to their lack of
JB>staying power . Margaret (my wife) has had
JB>communications with a William DUNN about either the FROST
JB>or DEARTH lines. She didn't remember which. There has I
JB>believe been some information published on the DEARTH
JB>family.
Jim, Greetings. I just returned from my first trip to the Ohio
Historical Society Library. I grew up close to there and visited the
museum quite often and never went to the library. Anyway, Since it was
my first visit and the first real step (other than some recent BBSing)
in my genealogical journey I just grabbed the first thing that looked
familiar and simple, a 1920 census record of Vinton county Ohio.
That is where my mother, her father, his father and his fathers mother
(my Gr-Gr-Grandmother?) were born. I'm not real sure the person I think
is my G-G-Grandmother really is. Her name is Nancy DEARTH and she was 83
as of 01/13/1920 (date census taken), she was born in Ohio but her
parents (no names given) were born in "Mareland" (YES that is how it is
spelled in the census believe it or not). Man, did I get excited when I
saw that. Your suspicions may very well be correct. Can you give me any
info about Caroline DEARTH and even better Randolph DEARTH II and
Elizabeth BAIRD. Since it was a census report a lot of stuff is not
included. Nancy DEARTH was a widow in 1920 so no husbands name was
given and I doubt Dearth was her maiden name, probably her husbands,
Huh? Now how do I find her husbands name with that little info I have?
Any suggestions?
M.O.C.
